What is the Emergency Alarm Test?

:earth_americas: This only affects those in the UK.

2023-04-23T14:00:00Z there is going to be an Emergency Alarm Test to test the capabilities of the new UK-wide emergency alert system.

A message is due to appear 2023-04-23T14:00:00Z on devices (Mobiles & Tablets) that will be escorted with possible buzzing, vibrating, sirens and or the message being read out.

This new system has been put in place by the UK Government as a:

Vital tool to keep the public safe in life-threatening emergencies.

Which devices will receive the alarm?

You need to have the following criteria to recieve the alarm:

  • :tokyo_tower: All devices which are on a 4G or 5G signal

  • :iphone: iPhones running iOS 14.5 or later

  • :robot: Phones and tablets running Android 11 or later

Devices that are considered “non-smart” will not receive the alarm. The alert will sound on phones on silent mode.

How should I expect the alarm to be sent?

Why is this alarm system being put in place?

This alarm system is being put in place to warn for future threats that may include:

  • Flooding
  • Fires
  • Extreme Weathers
  • Other threats to human life.

Yeah I forgot this was happening and was really confused why my phone was doing it lol

This is very similar to the alert system in the US which has been used for a few years now. But I’m glad to see a alert system being used in the UK now.
