What are your thoughts on Lua?

As a python programmer myself, I don’t really know how to put it.

So to all the Lua Developers, what do you think? What is nice about it? What isn’t? Would you prefer another language?

I’m also a python coder … Lua isn’t too hard to learn at the start. If you know one language, you can learn the others. All programming languages are similar in a few ways.

Well, I am a partly multi-language coder, I know python, lua; html, some Javascript.

To be honest, lua may seem easy at the beginning, but if you know your stuff it can definitely be a challenge.

What’s nice about lua:

  • It’s clean and simple, lua is extremely popular in the gaming market because of it’s speed…

What’s not so nice about lua:

  • Pff, that’s a hard one, I’m not quite sure, I mean it has some flaws, every language has some flaws or annoying parts.

Would I prefer another language?

  • Depends on what I’m working on, if it’s to do with roblox, I would probably stay with lua, if it was backend I probably would use python.

same, altho ngl i’ve tried discord.py once, never again, it was getting in my head, memorizing two languages at once had me mixing up sets of code left right and center, so i stick with discord.js | noblox.js

I am a professional software architect and I develop with a bunch of languages, mostly doing backend software. For big companies too. I see lua as a fun and easy way to learn some basic and if you get into it advanced scripting.

@OH20_rbLX ik this topic kinda died out but out of curiosity, what do YOU do with python and how well do you know it? also how many languages are you comfortable 100% fully with using

I use to take python classes for a few months but now that’s kinda ended. I know all basics, but not a pro at it yet.

I would say that I’m mainly comfortable with HTML and Python as I’ve learned more of it than other languages, such as JavaScript or C++

I like it the best because it is the only language that I am best at besides html!
