Roblox has recently announced a new event, the “Roblox Global Developer Championship”.
This will allow all developers to participate in a tournament-based global challenge.
From this little picture we can see however teams from across the world can participate, with stages going up, until a finals with 3 winners.
We can see that people will have to follow this time table:
With prizes being:
- 1st Place: 256GB Oculus Quest 2
- 2nd Place: Xbox Series S
- 3rd Place: Razer Huntsman V2 Optical Gaming Keyboard
- Top 5 Community Champions: $30 Roblox Gift Card
- Top 10 Community Finalists: $20 Roblox Gift Card
- All participants will receive an exclusive virtual item
“The exclusive virtual item”.
What are my views on this?
Personally I believe this is something good for the platform.
We can see roblox is being very generous with there rewards, not failing whatsoever!
This event seems really planned out and something that will interest a lot of people.
However, I have a few concerns.
-
It’s very hard to do these events, this event is a bit like a “game-jam”, however this will be very difficult as people going solo will really struggle to flourish.
-
The chance of winning for the average person is low.
-
People may not be wanting to have a verified devforum account (which can take up to 8 hours of constant reading to verify) to participate.
-
Goes all the way through school, maybe roblox could have considered doing this during a global holiday, or doing a poll when the majority of people wanted to do it.
Overall, I think this will be good for the community & will interest a lot of people.
Will I be participating?
No I will not personally participating as I don’t want to spend a lot of my time on something that will be difficult to win.
Do I think this is a good event?
For sure, these “game-jams” are always good fun & if you participate I wish you luck (check here) for more!
I would love to hear your view on this down in the responses below,
