Should roblox make it so any age can assess dev forum?

What are your opinions on the over 13 age rule?

I think not, I think roblox should stay with the read time for the DevForum. There would be an issue if it’s for 13+ because people could fake their age, or if they are over the age of 13, they will have to verify their account(Like we have to with voice chat), but people may not have access to any form of ID.

Ah, here’s the issue - By making ROBLOX’s forums under 13 they’re violating COPPA, a law put in place to protect children online.

Thanks for your opinions guys!

Cookie definitely has a point. For those of you who don’t know what COPPA is, it’s the Child’s Online Privacy Protection Act. It limits what data can be collected from children(users under 13), and what they can do on the internet.

This act sued Google and YouTube for violating child’s privacy rules. This is why YouTube is more family-friendly and restricted toward 13+ users. This forced both companies to pay $136 million to the FTC, and $34 million to New York for “violating this rule”. YouTube also fined any content creators who created content “directed toward children”.

Definetely not. First of all because -13 are too immature to follow the devforum rules, and as cookie said, COPPA’s rules wouldn’t allow.

I wouldn’t say all under 13 are immature, I know 11 & 12 year olds who can be mature when they want to be mature.

True. Still apart from that, it wouldn’t follow COPPA organization rules. But yeah you’re right there’s -13s who are really mature.

Do you mean it’s good to be only 13+? I didn’t understand, sorry

It’s good the DevForum is 13+. It stops under 13’s from entering a place where developers can have a place to talk and have a view on what the platform should be like.

Yeah. Imagine under 13’s spamming devs asking for robux and cash in-game lol!

Got to agree with @Delighted_Snowman on her point, in addition to that +13s can be exactly a “good” age.

But shouldn’t minors have a view on the platform? You see, there is no “good” age, “29 percent of Roblox games users were aged from 9 to 12 years worldwide . Additionally, 25 percent of Roblox games users were under the age of 9. Only 13 percent of Roblox games users were aged 13 to 16”.

In addition to that under 18’s are still minors.

That’s an interesting point, you can see people begging for robux, however I know lot’s of under 13’s would want to just meet the devs, not even get robux. There is no proper way to meet devs except on off-site platforms.

Oh, well, at the end of the day this will never be possible due to Coppa Regulations.

Yes, minors should have a view on the platform, but they could be saying bad stuff about the platform and who knows, the DevForum could be spammed.

Thing is I know +13 who will be exactly like this.

In the general schemes of things, there should be a place where minors can directly post there ideas to be sent to developer relations (not so that they can chat), in addition to that the process to get your account verified on the devforum is way to tedious, users having to read over 8 hours worth of posts to get verified.

Not trying to be annoying - but a minor is under 18.

I’m so glad I’m a mature minor on the DevForum! Anyways, Roblox could create an alternative for those that are under the age of 13 if they wish to talk to the community or want to submit a request to happen to the main website!

Not very sure about that … I don’t picture this would work out.

I can, watching little kids complain about their warning for saying “Will you mxxry me”.
That will make my day for the rest of life, just sitting in my brain replaying the memory.

My younger sister got me into Roblox, and she let me use her account, and then she just stopped using it. I only use her account and so many of my studio projects are on it, and I want to use the devforum. I think accounts under 13 should be able to use the devforum.

I’m late to this topic, but;

I think the age requirement is well needed. The dev forum isn’t as easily moderated and kids could take advantage of this, to troll or scam people, and that could create an affect that users can get away with more things on Roblox with some of these workarounds.
